NeXT Photometer

NeXT: A New Wireless Autonomous
Night Sky Brightness Sensor

NeXT is the first fully autonomous, wireless, low-cost and mobile NSB sensor to be used as an independent or networked device in fixed remote locations or in mobile platforms.

Larger solar panels improving for battery stability and autonomy.

No additional infrastructure is needed.

The color sensor also opens the possibility to color photometry for dark sky measurements.

Characteristics

NeXT is a zNSB photometer developed by private companies Alared InTech and SC Robotics under open source licenses.

NeXT is based on the TSL2591 high sensitivity light-to-digital converter two-color sensor (simultaneous measurements).

wireless LoRa, WiFI, Nb-IOT or LTE-M protocols

Lower errors, Sky Integrating Sphere (SIS) calibration method
IP67 weatherproof
GPS and gravimeter for moving measurements, enabling its installation on sea or land transport

Projects

Photometer Networks

Project Life Natura (UE)

Reducing and mitigating Light Pollution impact in Natura 2000 areas in Macaronesia (LIFE20 NAT/PT/001098) is being implemented in Macarones and co-financed by the European Union through the LIFE Programme funding instrument. The project aims to intervene on public illumination systems to benefit wildlife in three different archipelagos (Madeira, Azores, and the Canary Islands).

10 photometers installed

NexT photometers have been installed in urban areas to measure the brightness of the night sky. The NexT photometers will allow measurements of the impact of urban lights based on color.

SOMA: Oceans and the Environment

We will be participating in «Oceans and Environment Week» at the University of Cádiz. Within SOMA, Light Pollution will have a special focus. Artificial Light at Night (ALAN) is a serious threat not only to terrestrial areas, but also to marine ecosystems, which are particularly sensitive to this issue.

On Wednesday the 23rd, at 1:00 PM, we will be at the Salón de Grados of the CASEM building, on the Puerto Real campus.
